During my time at CodeClan / CodeBase I've gained valuable insights into collaboration and effective teamwork. In my final project one of my teammates shared that they were not confident in their programming skills. I encouraged them to use a software library that they had previously been excited about (Processing in Java and Javascript), telling them if they create some ideas for functionality it would be a great addition to the final project. After a couple days they shared some of their work with the rest of the team, we all celebrated this and felt proud that they had accomplished programming the code they had written. It was able to be included in the final project and helped further the functionality of the application - a web based synthesizer with reactive visuals and a CRUD database written in Java, utilising MongoDB.

Before transitioning to software development, I dedicated a three years to supporting vulnerable adults, working in social housing and addiction services. As a support worker for Framework Housing Association and later Turning Point Scotland, my responsibilities included operating in high-pressure, team-based environments to assist vulnerable adults. Tasks involved handling confidential data to GDPR standards, recording and monitoring individuals throughout their recovery journeys. I am accustomed to working 12-hour shifts, including night shifts, to achieve goals set during handovers at the beginning of the day. The skills developed in my previous roles align with my acquired software engineering skills. For example, I have experience working independently and collaboratively within groups to meet strict deadlines, encompassing the entire software development lifecycle. This ranges from planning data structures and user experiences to development, debugging, and testing, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the requirements for professional software development before deployment.

Despite the challenges posed by the liquidation of the organisation, I am just six days away from graduating from the 16-week Professional Software Development program at CodeClan. Furthermore, I was offered a scholarship to study Elite Software Engineering through the technology training provider Qwasar - where I'll be continuing my software engineering education, learning focusing on languages such as Python, C, C++ and Rust. I am eager to transition into a junior or entry-level position in software development to further expand my skill set and embark on a new career path.
